How to Perform a Website SEO Audit – The Step by Step Checklist

Here is the step by step guide to do an SEO Audit on a website both On-page & Off-page SEO analysis.
Many of us wants to start our own blog. But, only a few people know the importance of an SEO audit. At present, many new webites don’t understand that you can’t start working on your projects without having to perform this analysis first on them.
Why? Because these types of audits will help us both to know better what their strengths are and the mistakes to be corrected to improve their Search engine visibility.
As you can see, its mandatory to do a deep check of a website, focused on knowing your current health in issues related to your positioning in search engines. But, I would like us to understand this concept better:

What is an SEO Audit and what Does it do?

An SEO audit is the depth analysis of the health status of the Internet positioning that a particular website has. This audit will evaluate all internal and external aspects related to the SEO that may be affecting the visibility and conversions of an online project. What is an SEO Audit
The main reason to do SEO audit is to discover all the errors and cons of a website that affect its positioning in search engines, to help us find potential solutions to those problems.

How to Perform an SEO Audit?

In the SEO services that I offer you some of the best SEO audit sites, this is a key aspect to consider before beginning any type of new website.
The reason is clear, if you don’t know whats depth of the current situation of a web you won’t know what actions to carry out to improve your positioning.

Basics of an SEO Audit:

The main purpose of an SEO audit is to bring to light the errors or flaw of a website regarding SEO but, also, its job is to give solutions to those problems.
Therefore the attitude that we have to be before it is critical yes but, with a positivist nuance, since it would not serve us to find such errors and deficiencies without giving them a solution on the matter. And now, let’s start your own SEO audit.

On-Page Audit

1. Measuring organic visibility with SEMrush

Another of the most powerful tools of the market in terms of Digital Marketing is referred to is SEMrush. With it we can carry out many types of analysis and reports.
  • For the present case we will only see the organic visibility.
  • As an example I’m going to use the website of the Nike guys.

  • Simply go to the SEMrush tool and enter the domain and the database and click on “Search”.
  • The truth is that at first glance it seems that Nike is not doing anything wrong.
    • Its organic growth is clear, and its visibility has been growing and much in recent years.
On the other hand, it is also true that about 85% of their organic traffic comes from branded keywords, ie SEO Branding , something has to serve them the money they spend on advertising campaigns right?
Although, it seems that since the beginning of the year have reached a kind of roof, so we should investigate what is happening exactly.
As I do not have enough data and the Nike Marketing department is not going to pay for it, we’re going to leave it that way.

    2. WPO

We continue with our professional SEO audit. In this part we will analyze the WPO (web performance optimization), or what is the same, the speed of loading a web.
The first thing we are going to see is how to measure the loading speed of a web.
For this we have different tools, although personally I recommend two, one to measure the speed and others to see what factors are altering this speed.

How to measure the Site loading speed

I’m going to recommend this app, Pingdom Tools .Just enter the domain of the web you want to analyze, choose a server (usually use any of US or Eu) and click Start Test.
Speed Test to Cybergeak with Pingdom.
As we can see, Cybergeak’s loading speed is 3.18 seconds, which is not bad. But, taking into account that the home of this website doesn’t have many elements, its essential to improve that speed. Now let’s see what elements prevent this web from loading faster by testing your site with Google PageSpeed insights.

    Off-Page SEO Audit

Well, now let’s look at the offpage parts of an SEO audit. It should be remembered that these elements have an added difficulty, since its not up to us alone to modify them.

    1. Web authority

First of all is to verify the web authority of the site that we are auditing. As Google stopped posting PageRank updates, we can’t stick to that parameter but, don’t worry, we have a pretty good alternative.
We will use data from MOZ, more specifically the Page Authority and the Domain Authority.
For this we have two options. Either we download your toolbar, or we simply go to your Open Site Explorer tool.
We simply have to enter the domain to be analyzed, and wait for the response of the tool. I am going to put as an example CyberGeak Blog.
    seo audit
As at 22nd June, the domain was 2 month 4 days old and above are the Moz metrics I captured
We clarify a couple of concepts:
First we have the Domain Authority, which is the authority of the complete domain.
On the other hand we have the Page Authority that is the authority of that page, that is, each URL has its own authority.
In the case of my blog has a fair web authority. But, always can be improved by building high quality backlinks we’ve posted that before.
I hope this guide will help you with On-page and Off-page Seo audit of a website in 2017. Thanks for reading our webinar have a nice day…
